Description of Game:
A dynamic version of tic-tac-toe played on a 3x3 grid that originated in Ghana. Each player has four stones and take turns laying them on the board. Versions of this game have popular around the world with various cultures having different rules. See rules before for different versions.
Rules:
Traditional Ghanaian Rules:
Each player has 4 stones/counters. Play like tic-tac-toe. When all counters are used you must move one already on the board. No jumping, must move to an empty space along a line. There will always be a winner!
Other versions and rules
Marelle (France): Neither player may make the first movie in the center
Tapatan (Philippines): Only 3 stones/counters
Tant Fant (India): The game begins with the players 3 counters already in “starting position” or lined up at the bottom/top of board.
Note: There are other similar cultural games with slightly different boards but the same concept. For example, Picaria was played by in the Indigenous peoples of the southwest United States.
